Will I ever be able to show these movies to my friends by renting or buying a video?

Fri, December 12, 2003 - 10:21 AM"The Order" from Cremaster 3 is available on DVD - It's only half an hour of the movie, but it's the most amazing part of the film, and the way the DVD is designed is (of course) mind-bendingly gorgeous.

Fri, December 12, 2003 - 5:03 PMI've heard rumors, unsubstantiated, but from different sources, so I suspect that there's a GRAIN of truth to them, that Barney wants $500,000 for a set of the videos. His rationale is that the movies are his art, and are priced for galleries rather than mass consumption at Lackluster Video.
But you know, they're releasing bad 70s TV on DVD, so anything's possible. I'll be right in line behind you when they're released.

Re: Videos
Fri, December 12, 2003 - 5:11 PMOh, Barney's already done that.
For the right price, you can own each of the Cremaster films in a custom crafted container sculpted by the artist himself.
He's been doing this throughout the production of the Cremaster Cycle, also producing laserdisc and VHS packages for interested buyers - I'm not sure if this is hubris as much as it was a good idea for financing the final films in the cycle.
The custom DVD/laserdisc/VHS packages were on display at the Guggenheim earlier this year - the design on these things were over the top...complex, oversized sculptures created to house a disc or a tape. -

Thu, March 18, 2004 - 2:13 PMi got my dvd-r s on ebay. the quality is a little dodgy (like a 2nd or 3rd generation vhs tape) but they're all mine. smile.
i believe the officially authorized videodiscs cost $10,000 and come attached to a sculpture.
